What Must I do to be saved?

'

In the book of Acts, chapter 16, a man asks, “What must I do to be saved?” Like this man, every person needs to realize that they cannot save themselves.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23

No one can stand before the perfectly holy and righteous God, and declare themselves righteous and worthy of His favor.  In fact, even one sin brings condemnation.

“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” – James 2:10

In fact, God’s standards of righteousness and justice are so high, He equates lustful thoughts with adultery, and hatred with murder. Surely no one can live up to this standard by their own efforts.

The penalty for such sin is too severe to even imagine. “The wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23). Death for the sinner means eternal separation from God in Hell and the Lake of Fire.

But God, according to His great love and mercy, provided a way for anyone to receive a complete pardon for their sins.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” – John 3:16-17

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” – 2 Corinthians 5:21

God the Father sent His own Son to die a sinner’s death in our place. And because of what Jesus Christ did for us on the cross, there is now an answer to the question, “What must I do to be saved?”

The answer given to that man, and to all who ask the same question, is “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” By placing our complete trust in Jesus to save us, we can be forgiven of all our sins, and be assured of a place in Heaven for all eternity.

Dear friend, please consider carefully what God has done for you, and bring your sins and your past to Jesus Christ, and He will truly set you free.

If you want to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior right now, you can pray:

“Lord Jesus, I need You.  Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins.  I confess that I am a sinner and in need of Your forgiveness.  Please forgive me of my sins and come into my life as my Savior and Lord.  Thank You for the gift of eternal life.  I want You to be in charge of my life and to change me to be the person You want me to be.”
